Over Our Way - The Devils Of Rose Hall was published by Longman Publishers in 1980. The author of the book Jean D. Costa was a critic and a teacher. She attended St. Hilda's and the St. Hugh's High School for girls and later on attended U.W.I. and the Hamilton College in U.S.A., she later on became a Professor of English. The novel ,"The Devils of Rose Hall'' is fictional or an anthology, it teaches people about the history of Portland's Great House and it's also a famous attraction for tourist.
Brief Summary:
Over Our Way-The Devils of Rose Hall is about a priest, John McGregor, who was not afraid of any thing. He had a strong belief in his Christianity. To decide what he was going to do the next time he had to speak at church, he had a suggestion box of which the church members would put their suggestions. He would pick them out at random. He choose one which had to do with Rose Hall. He dared himself to stay one night over at Rose Hall. Many people thought that was rather stupid. The last people who stayed at Rose Hall never live to tell their story. He was however not afraid.
John McGregor went to the house.He went up to a room to stay for the night he got changed, and went to bed. He heard someone calling his name and knocking on the door, "John McGregor! Come down to dinner!" He ignored it. "John McGregor! Come down to dinner!!" It called again, but he ignored it once more. It came inside the room and woke him up. It told him to come down to dinner and he followed him downstairs. It introduced it to all his fellow ghost mates. John McGregor told them he wasn't hungry. they looked disappointed and some upset. John McGregor rebuked the evil spirits, went back to bed then the next morning he told the church about his experiences at Rose Hall.
